I am originally from the Southern States but have been settled out here in Seattle for over a decade. The beautiful Northwest provides inspiration all year round. Gardening, ikebana, horseback riding, antique and junk foraging, cooking, any kind of live music and reading by the fire are what I consider the good life. I believe my pieces are joyful and reflect the rhythm of life, the constant change of the garden and my interest in pairing old with new, bold with subtle.
I come from a family filled with artists but I started out as a writer with a background in art history. I am attracted to the gestural marks of old alphabets, calligraphy, stone carvings and repeat patterns of textiles and carpets that create a language of their own yet seem familiar.
My printmaking style is very painterly even though a press is used to make the monotypes. I usually embellish a printed piece by painting on it afterwards or use it as a basis for collage. Monotypes are one of a kind and cannot be replicated. My newest love, encaustic also lends itself to singularity. Painting with pigmented beeswax creates wonderful layers of glowing color that is addictive! While heat fusing the wax it has a mind of its own leading to surprises and I enjoy the serendipitous lack of control. No matter the medium all of my pieces are original and one of a kind.
